EAP - Application for Special Consideration

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) students can apply for special consideration when they cannot take an exam. Reasons include:
  • If you are sick or have mental health issues
  • If you have an unavoidable employment, family or cultural commitment
  • If you have to unexpectedly care for a family member

Instructions
You must:

  • Apply within 7 days of the exam
  • Apply before you receive your results
  • Submit evidence to support your application (ie: doctor's certificate)
Special consideration is NOT automatically granted but is decided based on the evidence supplied.

Make sure:

  • Your student number, class number, and full name are included
  • The assessment you are applying for is stated (ie: writing, listening, etc.)
  • Additional supporting documents are attached (ie: doctor's certificate)
  • Reasons for special consideration are included

Late applications will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. These applications must contain a detailed explanation of the reasons for being late, supported by documented evidence.

Supporting Documents

Reason for Special Consideration application

Students can apply for special consideration on medical or non-medical grounds.

For medical grounds you must submit:
  • A Medical Impact Statement completed by a medical/health practitioner. Download a copy here.
OR
  • A medical certificate, which states the dates and severity of the impact of your condition.

For non-medical grounds you must submit:
  • A detailed statement with evidence (ie: police report) outlining the reasons for your application.



If you cannot provide your supporting documentation at this time, you have seven days from the date the application was received to provide supporting documentation.

Equitable Assessment Arrangement (EAA)

Students with ongoing conditions (ie: a hearing impairment) may apply for an Equitable Assessment Arrangement for their studies.

  • My student email inbox must be able to receive emails (My inbox is not full).
  • The information I have included is true and correct.
  • RMIT University Pathways (RMIT UP) may need to confirm the information I have provided.
  • Decisions may be changed if information is incorrect or incomplete.
  • RMIT UP can contact my doctor and/or persons or organisations named in supporting information to confirm it is correct.
  • I may be asked to provide more specific information to support my application.
  • I give consent for my supporting documentation to be used in any application process.
  • It is my responsibility to provide sufficient evidence to support my special consideration application.
  • I understand that incomplete and unsupported applications will not be considered.
  • False or misleading information may lead to disciplinary action.
